Granny Ministry

Granny Ministry

Russia’s population of elderly is in desperate need of help. They are overlooked and disregarded by the government and by their own families. With the prices of food continually on the rise, (dairy alone went up 200% last December) and with the pensions declining, many elderly are left to beg on the streets.

Anna is our little “babushka” who we met begging at our metro over five years ago, always in the same place, and usually all day.  As our team was talking one day, we realized that we had all been giving her money, and telling her how much God loved her.  At that moment, we decided that this was not just coincidence, and that something needed to be done. We started helping on a bigger scale.  Inquiring about her family, what medication she needed, and other specific needs.  As time passed, trust was built, and she eventually invited us to her apartment where we visited her regularly and she soon invited Jesus into her heart!

She has no one else, but she is now our “Babushka Anna”, and we are her family. I wish you could meet this sweet 91 year old, which loves God, and has become our biggest prayer partner! We visit her every week, and we provide her with groceries and medicine every month. Her pension isn’t enough to cover food and medication, just her apartment.

Since meeting Anna, and seeing the impact the love of God, and having a “family” has had upon her life, it has made a tremendous impact on our hearts.

At this moment we’ve begun this ministry with our one babushka that we’ve reached with the gospel. Through our relationship and testimonies of babushka Anna, we desire to inspire more churches with the vision to reach out to the elderly here. Anna herself has even started her own prayer meeting where three other 90 old grandmas meet with her, and whenever she sits outside she preaches to all the other little grandmas walking by!
